A couple caught while having s*x in the cinema watching Batman vs Superman has been charged to court and spoken about their shame since the incident.
Liam Thornborough and Anne Abberley “got carried away” after starting to kiss while watching Batman v Superman.
The two were caught on the third row by staff on CCTV cameras which had been installed to tackle film piracy, Manchester magistrates heard this week.
According to Prosecutor Robin Lynch, he said an usherette approached the two and realised they were having s*x, although six people sitting behind had not noticed.
Thornborough, 36, became aggressive when asked to leave and refused to budge, claiming he was still watching the film. However, he attacked the usherette hitting the individual in the face.
Mr Lynch revealed further that Abberley, 47, and Thornborough verbally abused security staff at The Printworks cinema in Manchester before being detained by police at the afternoon showing last month.
Margaret McCormack, defending, said the pair, from Longsight, Manchester, were “absolutely mortified by their actions” and have since apologised after the story began circulating on social media sites.
She said they live separately in “hostel-type” accommodation and “don’t have anywhere for private time together”.
Ms McCormack said when the couple first entered the screening room it was empty.
“They started kissing, things progressed and the offence was committed. They are ashamed by their actions,” she said.
“They’ve been subjected to intense public humiliation which won’t end today.”
After pleading guilty to outraging public decency the couple were ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and costs of £85.
They received a 12-month conditional discharge.
Thornborough was also given a £60 fine for the assault charge and ordered to pay £100 compensation to the usherette.
All the cash will be deducted from the couple’s benefits.
